Kolkata, Aug 31: SC East Bengal have roped in the services of promising midfielder Amarjit Singh Kiyam on a season-long loan deal from FC Goa, ahead of the Indian Super League season 2021/22.
Defensive midfielder Amarjit captained the Indian team in the FIFA U-17 World Cup, before being picked to play for Indian Arrows in I-League 2017-18. The 20-year old signed for Jamshedpur FC following his stint with Arrows, and in 2019, made his debut for the Indian senior team in the King’s Cup in Thailand.
During the 2019-20 season, Amarjit made his ISL debut for Jamshedpur FC after another loan spell at Arrows, playing a total of 15 games for the Men of Steel before joining FC Goa in the January transfer window on a multi-year deal.
The Manipur-born footballer, known for his composure on the ball as well as his maturity, featured in four of FC Goa’s six AFC Champions League group stage games, besides making two appearances for the Gaurs in the ISL last season.
“It’s always a great feeling signing for a big club like SC East Bengal. It’s like a dream come true for a young player like me. I want to achieve so much for the club and myself. I am eager to improve and want to contribute to helping this team achieve more and more success,” said Amarjit.
Amarjit became the team’s first new signing of the season. SC East Bengal, coached by Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler, took part in their maiden ISL campaign last time, finishing in ninth place.
