SC East Bengal Search for First Win against Mumbai City FC

Vasco, January 6: After a spirited performance against Bengaluru FC, SC East Bengal will lock horns against Mumbai City FC in another Hero Indian Super League encounter at the Tilak Maidan Stadium in Vasco.

Mumbai City FC, despite being winless in their last three matches, sit in second place on the points table behind Hyderabad FC, who are ahead on goal difference. Their recent dip in form, however, is not something SC East Bengal interim coach Renedy Singh is reflecting on. He knows all too well about the firepower Mumbai City FC possess in their ranks, and is devising a strategy accordingly.

“Mumbai City FC are a fantastic side, with one of the best attacking line-ups of the tournament. They have consistently done well every season. We have to make the game difficult for them, because if we allow them to play, they will punish us,” Renedy said in the pre-match press conference.

Talking about his own team, Renedy said he loved the fight his boys put in with their limitations against Bengaluru FC. “I am very proud of the way the boys fought in the last match against Bengaluru FC. My only concern is, can we play with a little more confidence when the ball is at our feet? We are working on that,” Renedy said, adding that the team has to play as a unit, attacking and defending together.

When asked about his plans to neutralize the offensive threat of Mumbai City FC, the former India captain said, “I am not bothered about individual opponents because Igor Angulo, Ahmed Jahouh, Bipin Singh, they all are good players. We have to focus on our strengths. If we can do our job well, they will have a tough match on their hands.

Renedy knows the importance not thinking too much ahead of themselves and has urged his team to concentrate on one match at a time. “We are taking it one match at a time. It is going to be a tough match, but not impossible by any means. We’ll only have one or two foreigners at our service due to injuries and suspensions, but I know whoever plays will give their all in the field,” he said.

In another blow to SCEB, Renedy will be without defender Tomislav Mrcela, who is out for at least three weeks with a muscle injury, in addition to the other absentees.
