Panaji, Nov 29: Skipper Danny Fox feels SC East Bengal can bounce back from a disappointing start to the Hero Indian Super League season going by the way they played in their opener.
The red and gold brigade lost to arch-rivals ATK Mohun Bagan 0-2 on Friday at their home ground in Tilak Maidan.
Centre-back Fox marshalled his troops well at the heart of the defence and also put in an impressive shift. Ahead of the team's second encounter against Mumbai City FC next Tuesday, the 34-year old spoke to www.sceastbengal.co.
That was not the result we wanted in the last game, but what are the positives we can take from it?
Positives are that we look really fit. We created chances throughout the game even if it was one or two nil, it didn't matter. We went for the game. I felt if we had scored the first goal, it would have been a totally different game. As soon as they scored the first goal, they kind of shut up shop and tried to play on the counter attack. We are bitterly disappointed that we never won the game.
As the skipper of the side, what are the areas you feel we can work on?
If you look at how we played, I think we played particularly well considering we were together for two or three weeks. The Gaffer and the coaching staff are still implementing their style of play and their methods into practice. We can be a bit more organised, maybe a bit more effective going forward. We can always improve no matter what. Even if we had won the game on Friday, we would still look to improve.
Looking ahead, we play Mumbai City FC on Tuesday. Your thoughts.
We are looking forward to it. The games are coming thick and fast and it's something we are looking forward to. It's going to be a tough game. It can't come quick enough because we all want to right the wrongs from Friday night.
Were the heat and humidity issues during the first game?
We have been training at a certain time over here. We have been training at 10:30, 11 o' clock so it is really hot at that time of the day. At 7:30 it was a lot cooler. It was humid. But we dealt with it really well and we looked fit until the end of the game. We have a good squad. We are looking forward to playing on Tuesday.
Finally, the fans have been right behind us and you are already a fan favourite. A message for them.
We are upset that they can't be with us because of the situation. But we see all the reactions through social media and it does help us. Even if they are not in the stadiums, they can give us that lift before and after games. We are going to try and win every single game, as many as possible not just for ourselves but for the fans.
